For most people, networking can seem like a very unfortunate side effect of doing business. On the one hand, you are looking to befriend someone and on the other, you are looking to get something out of the relationship. “It can feel a bit icky”, Corey Aaron Shrader says when talking about his quest to be an expert networker to improve his chances of succeeding as a top businessman in his community. “But you’ve got to just forget all that and focus on your goals.”
When it comes to networking and looking to reach the top of his game, Corey Aaron Shrader is no stranger. As a young athlete, he became the de facto captain in many of the sports teams he played on including Football and Basketball. It is no surprise that this kind of leadership prepared him for the real world. “I am a huge advocate for confidence and I think that is what it comes down to most of the time,” Corey Aaron Shrader notes.
But it hasn’t always been this kind of smooth sailing for Corey Aaron Shrader. “I remember when I first hit the job market and I couldn’t get the ball rolling. I would go to these meetings and I would be nervous because of how much experience the other folks had”, Corey Aaron Shrader recalls of his first sales apprenticeship meetings. “But then I remembered what I learned in college.” As a board member of the National Society of Leadership and Success at the University of South Florida in St. Petersburg, Florida, Corey Aaron Shrader participated in several meetings that would put him in rooms with extremely qualified individuals from politicians to celebrities and athletes. “It was an interesting time but it taught me nearly everything about networking in business that I know today.” Corey Aaron Shrader recalled. “And I believe it was those experiences that got me through the tough times at the start of my business career here in the community.”
As an account manager, Corey Aaron Shrader is constantly put in environments that test his leadership skills as well as his ability to network and communicate with others that are several rungs above him on the career ladder. “Networking and learning how to network has truly made all the difference in how I live my life in all aspects from running my business to how I communicate with family members.” And for those wondering if networking remains as challenging as it always has been once you begin, Corey Aaron Shrader has some uplifting words of advice. “It actually gets easier and, dare I say it…fun!”

Born in Hagerstown, MD in September of 1991, Corey Aaron Shrader was a middle child growing up. While this may seem like a minor detail, the psychological effect of being a middle child puts him in the prime position to be a leader with delegation capabilities to manage two sides of an argument. Growing up, Corey Aaron Shrader played a multitude of sports including baseball, basketball, hockey, soccer, and football. His stellar work ethic and leadership capabilities on the field attracted scouts interested in offering him a college scholarship and several local and state schools. Although he had a knack for athletics, Corey Aaron Shrader was more interested in the academic portion of collegiate life. As a result, he decided to enroll in the University of South Florida in St. Petersburg.
As a student at the University of South Florida, Corey Aaron Shrader found his calling to be in microbiology and the biomedical sciences which he received his degree in. His focus on environmental science and its relationship to medicine and medical practices gave him an interesting niche in which to pursue his dual passions. But his natural bend towards leadership positions thanks to his athletic days came calling when he decided to run for the National Society of Leadership and Success. As a result of his passion for leadership in the laboratory, he became a 2019 inductee. His responsibilities as a member included organizing training day events led by influential figures as well as becoming a liaison for Student Networking Teams. Corey Aaron Shrader’s hard work was recognized by campus officials when he was asked to participate among the top student body members in a leadership forum.
Today, Corey Aaron Shrader is a leader in an office where he works as a sales coordinator. Thanks to his experience in athletics, in the laboratory, and with the National Society of Leadership and Success, Corey Aaron Shrader is a well-rounded professional leader. As a result, Corey Aaron Shrader’s future is in his own hands and is knocking on the door as an environmental scientist with ambitions to change the world of medicine through enhanced medical technologies.
When it comes to that rare combination of leadership and collaboration, this University of South Florida student has it in spades. Corey Aaron Shrader completed his education in Biology and Biomedical sciences in 2019 but while this may sounds like he is a one track pony, the graduate wasn’t always passionate about the sciences.

Additionally, he was a member of the group’s Student Networking Team which allowed him to flex those natural and core leadership skills as an athlete in setting and achieving goals as well as communicating with others in a team member as well as networking capacity.
